Southfield Parks & Recreation cancels summer programs

The city of Southfield Parks & Recreation Department has cancelled all summer programming, including all classes, programs, camps, special events, athletic leagues and senior programs and trips through at least August 31, 2020 in an effort to keep Southfield safe. The Southfield Sports Arena pool will also be closed for the season; however, Evergreen Hills Golf Course and all Southfield parks and nature preserves will remain open.

“Parks & Recreation staff will continue to monitor the Governor’s Executive orders, CDC and county guidelines along with our city officials’ guidance regarding future programming and the appropriate time for the safe reopening of our facilities,” added Southfield Parks and Recreation Director Terry Fields. “In the absence of in-person programming, P&R staff have developed a virtual recreation program, Stay INterActive, that features daily activities, arts & crafts, games, helpful links, video tips and more. We will continue to develop and evolve this program and others throughout the coming months.”

Evergreen Hills Golf Course opened to the public on May 12. The course will continue to be open daily, weather permitting, from 8 a.m. to dusk. The weekday rate for 9 holes of golf and a cart is $22/person. Saturday and Sunday rates are $23/person for 9 holes and a power cart. The walking rate on weekdays for 9 holes remains $12/person. Saturday and Sunday walking rate is $13/person. All tee times must be booked and paid in advance with a credit card by calling (248) 796-4666. No cash or walk-ins will be accepted.

All Southfield parks are open from dawn to dusk and there are no park entrance fees. Please note that while at the park, amenities including playground equipment are not sanitized. We remind visitors to follow CDC safety guidelines by wearing masks, practicing social distancing and washing your hands following your visit.

Residents are reminded to continue to visit Southfield Park & Recreation’s Facebook page @SouthfieldParksandRecreation to Stay INterActive Southfield.

For more information, call Parks & Recreation Information Desk at (248) 796-4620 or visit the City’s website at for a full list of cancellations, closures and further updates. Staff will return all calls should residents reach and leave voicemail.
