Beech Woods Park Master Plan – Virtual Open House May 11

Southfield Parks and Recreation Department is excited to share the concepts our partners at OHM have created for Beech Woods Park, with the community! OHM will be conducting a Virtual Open House this Tuesday, May 11 from 6-7:30 pm to discuss the plans and to hear the reactions from our residents and community members.

The meeting will take place online via Zoom and can be accessed by phone, though you will not be able to see the graphics using that format. We will also be sharing the meeting via Facebook Live on the Southfield Parks & Recreation page (@SouthfieldParksandRecreation) to allow our Followers to see and comment on the plans as well. Parks & Recreation Update - April 27

To help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community and in accordance with the latest orders issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services:

             • The Parks and Recreation Building, the Senior Services office, Southfield Sports Arena and Beech Woods Recreation Center are closed to the public through June 1. Staff continue to work at all facilities, both on site in a limited capacity and remotely.

             • Staff at the Parks & Recreation Department Information Desk (248) 796-4620 and the Beech Woods Recreation Center (248) 796-4670 front desk will answer phones and accept registrations by phone only. During this time, our phone lines will be open Monday through Friday from 9 am-5 pm. On-line registration is available anytime of the day at https://apm.activecommunities.com/southfieldparks

            • TOSS (Transportation of Southfield Seniors) will continue to take reservations and provide transportation for medical appointments and limited grocery trips. Appointments must be made at least 48 hours in advance and riders will receive a health screening call the day prior to their appointment between 10 am and 2 pm. Masks are required for all riders and drivers, and buses are cleaned after each rider. If you have questions or would like to schedule an appointment please call (248) 796-4658. Leave your name, phone number and a short message and someone will return your call as soon as possible. If you need other transportation services please call the SMART Connector at (866) 962-5515.

            • All Southfield parks remain open to the public during this time. However, outdoor restrooms and water access at Beech Woods Park, Civic Center Park, Inglenook Park, Pebble Creek Park and the Mary Thompson House and Farm are closed for the season. When visiting a Southfield park please do your part to protect yourself and others by wearing a face mask and keeping a safe physical distance from others.

Beech Woods Recreation Center

The Beech Woods Recreation Center features 17,000 square feet of recently renovated gymnasium space. The Center has the capability to run three collegiate basketball games simultaneously. If volleyball is more your game, the gym has the ability to run four volleyball games at once.

The Beech Woods Recreation Center hosts a number of Southfield Parks & Recreation programs including youth basketball leagues in the fall, winter, and spring beginning in September, January and April. Beech Woods Recreation Center also offers sporting opportunities for people with disabilities and for adults ages 50 years and over. Adaptive programs include wheelchair basketball, golf and tennis. Southfield Sports Arena

The Southfield Sports Arena remains closed for General Skate and Sticks & Pucks at this time.

The Southfield Sports Arena (located on the grounds of the Southfield Municipal Complex) is a multi-use complex with a regulation NHL ice surface and an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool. There are vending machines on site providing refreshments.

Outdoor Pool

Looking for a fun way to celebrate in the summer?? Why not have a party at the Sports Arena Pool?! The pool is available for rental for reunions, business picnics, birthday and graduation parties as well as neighborhood gatherings throughout the summer. For more information, or to reserve your date please call (248) 796-4640. In addition to the Olympic sized pool, there is a children’s spray pool, climbing wall and 120-foot waterslide on site. 

Indoor Ice Arena

The Southfield Sports Arena remains closed for General Skate and Sticks & Pucks at this time.

P&R Building & Southfield Pavilion

The Parks & Recreation Building and Southfield Pavilion remain closed to the public at this time.

The Parks & Recreation Building is located at the north end of the Southfield Municipal Complex (26000 Evergreen Road). The building houses the main Parks & Recreation offices, the main Information Desk where program registration takes place for numerous classes including dance, aerobic and art classes and is the location of the Senior Services offices and many of their activities. Many of the rooms in the Parks & Recreation Building are also available for rental.

The Southfield Pavilion, located within the Southfield Municipal Complex at 26000 Evergreen Road, has hosted conferences for over 2,000 people to trade shows featuring over 170 (8 x 8) exhibition booths. Break out space is available in five additional rooms located in the Parks & Recreation Building. Free parking for over 1,200 vehicles, as well as quick access to major area freeways such as M-10 (Lodge), I-696 and the Southfield Freeway, make it easy for your attendees to find your event. The Southfield Pavilion is available for rental. Please refer to the Rental Opportunities section of this website for specific details.

Burgh Historical Park

The buildings at the Burgh Historical Park remain closed to the public at this time.

The Burgh Historical Park is one of Southfield’s hidden gems. Located on the northeast corner of Civic Center Drive and Berg Road the park features renovated turn of the century buildings nestled within beautiful manicured lawns and abundant flower gardens offering a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Gazebo Concert Series
Held each year at the Gazebo at the Burgh Historical Park, these concerts have become a staple of the summer season, not only for Southfield, but for Oakland County.

Special Occasion and Wedding Rental Options

Special Occasion and Wedding Rentals are currently suspended at the Burgh Historical Park.

Come see how your next event can be "Better at the Burgh." Available for outdoor and indoor events, the Burgh Historical Park offers a unique venue for your wedding, graduation party, family reunion, Bar or Bat Mitzvah or retirement party. The picturesque Gazebo and the Thomas Frommeyer Memorial Gardens Courtyard offer two distinct options for weddings and other important social occasions. There is adequate room for a tent for an outdoor reception at the park as well as a parking lot and additional lawn parking. If you desire an indoor reception, room for up to 50 people may be reserved within the 1854/56 Methodist Church or the 1938 Church Annex. Parks & Recreation Senior Services

The Senior Services offices remain closed to the public at this time.

The Parks & Recreation Senior Services (formerly known as the Adult Recreation Center 50+) offices are located within the Parks & Recreation Building at 26000 Evergreen Road. Senior Services offer comprehensive programs including classes, trips, nutrition and outreach programs, and a variety of other services. Some of the most popular offerings include monthly casino and luncheon trips, the award-winning Senior Gardens at the historic Mary Thompson Farm, and various athletic leagues including golf and bounce volleyball. Many of these activities allow seniors the opportunity to participate in athletic competitions at both the city and county level.
