🐾 Welcome to The Dog Park at Lahser Woods!

Southfield’s newest park is designed just for pups (and their people)! With safe play areas, solar-lit paths, and space to connect with neighbors, this park is all about unleashing fun in a responsible way.

Located within Lahser Woods Park at 27577 Lahser Road, The Dog Park at Lahser Woods features:

🐕 Separate large & small dog (under 25 pounds) areas

🔒 Secure, fenced environment

🌞 Solar-lit walking paths

🚗 Expanded parking lot with EV charging (coming soon!)

🐾 This project was made possible by a Community Park & Trail Capital Grant from Oakland County Parks.

Accidents happen — be ready to help when your pet needs you most. This informative class will cover animal CPR, first aid for pets, and how to respond to common pet emergency situations. A great opportunity for pet owners, families, and teens to learn lifesaving skills.

To become a member of The Dog Park at Lahser Woods, residents may apply online or in person at the Southfield Parks & Recreation Department. Membership requires the following steps:

 

Step 1         Get a City of Southfield Dog License

       Each dog must have a valid City of Southfield Dog License before joining the Dog Park. If your dog is not yet licensed, you can find details on how to obtain one at: City of Southfield Pet License Information 

 

Step 2    Complete the Membership Form and Waiver for The Dog Park at Lahser Woods

 When filling out the Dog Park Membership Form, be prepared to upload:

  • A copy of your pet’s current vaccination record (must be on veterinarian letterhead and include dates given and/or expiration dates). Required vaccines: Rabies, DHLPP/DAPPL (Distemper), and Bordetella.

  • A copy (photo or PDF) of your City of Southfield Dog License showing license/tag number, expiration date, pet’s name, and owner’s name.

Step 4    Pay Membership Fee

Once your application has been verified, all that’s left is payment:

  • $45/year (includes first dog)

  • +$10 for each additional dog (up to 3 per household)

Your membership includes a key fob and dog tag. Replacement fees: $10 (fob) / $5 (tag).

 

The Dog Park at Lahser Woods - Rules at a Glance

Access & Safety

  • Valid key fob required.

  • Dogs must be leashed entering/exiting. Owners must carry a leash inside.

  • Small Dog Area is for dogs under 25 lbs.

Dog Behavior

  • Remove dogs showing aggression or excessive barking.

  • No dogs in heat, under 4 months, sick, or with parasites.

Supervision & Age

  • Adults 18+ only. Kids 6–17 may enter with a parent/guardian.

  • No children under 6 inside the fenced area.

  • Dogs must be supervised at all times.

Not Allowed

Toys, food (dog or human), smoking, alcohol, glass, bicycles, strollers, professional trainers, or animals other than dogs.
🚫 Pinch, prong, spike, chain collars, or harnesses inside the park.

 

How to Report an Incident at The Dog Park at Lahser Woods

To help ensure the safety and enjoyment of all members, registered users are expected to follow the rules and regulations outlined in the Membership Form and Waiver.

If an incident occurs, a registered Dog Park member can file an Incident Report Form. Please complete and submit this form within 48 hours of the incident.

🚨 Enforcement & Reporting

  • Use of the park is at your own risk.

  • Owners are legally responsible for their dogs’ actions.

  • Report incidents/violations:

Dog Bite Protocol

  • Report all dog bites immediately to the Southfield Police Department.

  • Dogs must remain on-site until authorities arrive.

  • Michigan Penal Code 750.66: Handlers (18+) must stay at the scene, provide ID and vaccination info.

 

Complaint and/or Rule Violation Process:

Once your Incident Report Form is submitted, it will be reviewed by a Southfield Parks & Recreation staff member. A staff member will then contact you if additional information is needed.
