Southfield is a film-friendly community offering accessible locations, streamlined permitting, and responsive support for productions of all sizes. Whether you’re filming a commercial, feature, TV pilot, or student project, our team helps you find the right locations and navigate the local process with ease.

Turnaround Time

Please submit at least 5 business days prior to filming. Larger or more complex shoots may require more time.

 

How to Apply

  1. Complete the Film Permit Application
  2. Include:
    • Proof of insurance
    • Site map or shoot plan (if applicable)
    • Contact information for your on-site point of contact
  3. Submit materials to:
    rfreeman@cityofsouthfield.com

City Review

Applications are reviewed by:

  • Police
  • Fire
  • Public Works
  • Other departments as needed

You will receive an approval, request for revisions, or next steps.

Filming Rates

Standard fees may apply depending on the scale and impact of the production.

  • Base Film Permit Fee
  • Police or Fire personnel (hourly, if required)
  • Park or facility rental fees (if applicable)
  • Street/sidewalk closure fees (case-dependent)

Exact fees will be confirmed after application review.

Police, Fire, and DPW support are available when needed for traffic control, special effects, or public safety.
