Business Recognition Program
On February 9, 2026, the City of Southfield hosted its first formal Business Recognition Program during a regular City Council meeting.
Businesses that celebrated ribbon cuttings and grand openings between August 2025 and January 2026 were invited to attend and be recognized publicly. During the meeting, representatives were introduced to City Council, presented with Certificates of Appreciation, and participated in a commemorative photo opportunity.
This recognition marked an important milestone for our department, which began formally coordinating ribbon cuttings and grand openings in August 2025 as a no-cost benefit for businesses opening, expanding, relocating, or celebrating significant milestones in Southfield.
Why This Matters
Our Business Recognition Program reflects more than a ceremonial moment. It demonstrates the City’s commitment to:
-
Celebrating private investment in Southfield
-
Building strong relationships with businesses of all sizes
-
Providing public visibility and community connection
-
Strengthening our local economy and business ecosystem
From international firms to family-owned operators and expanding restaurant concepts, each recognized business contributes to Southfield’s continued growth and vibrancy.
Moving Forward
Beginning in Spring 2026, businesses will be invited to participate in this recognition program on a quarterly basis. This format ensures that we consistently acknowledge and celebrate the companies choosing to invest in and grow within our community.
Looking Ahead: Legacy Business Recognition
In addition to recognizing new and expanding businesses, the City is exploring a separate acknowledgement for long-standing, legacy businesses that have played an important role in Southfield’s history and economic stability.
Stay tuned for more information on this upcoming initiative.
