2025 Memorial Day Ceremony
The Southfield Veterans’ Commission presented a special plaque in honor of fallen Southfield Police Officer James McMahon to Dennis McMahon representing the family.

Police Chief Award
Dr. Rodney Caruthers, Chairperson Southfield Veterans’ Commission was presented with the Southfield Police Chief Challenge Coin award just before the Southfield Memorial Day Ceremony on (5/23/25).
A Southfield Police Chief challenge coin is a small, medallion-like token that police officers carry with them. It is given out in recognition of a job well done or as a gesture of camaraderie among law enforcement personnel.

2025 Southfield Veteran's Resource Fair
Southfield Veterans Resource Fair – 3/13/2025
Oakland County Veterans’ Services provided information and claims assistance regarding the many services veterans see as mission critical. Food and drinks were also provided. Several booths and volunteers were available to assist those in attendance. The city of Southfield (police, etc.) and the Southfield Veterans’ Commission hosted the event.

2024 City of Southfield Memorial Day Ceremony
Mr. Butler Martin, a 101-year-old Detroit WWII veteran was honored at the City of Southfield Memorial Day Ceremony on Friday, May 24. Mr. Martin is the oldest living Montford Point Marine and one of first African Americans to serve in the United States Marine Corps.

Southfield Veterans' Commission Chairperson Dr. Rodney Caruthers and Southfield Veterans' Commission Liaison Lieutenant Bzeith Mostapha honor two fallen police officers who were also military veterans. Officer James William McMahon served in the Navy and officer Donald L. Harding served in the National Guard
The Southfield Veterans’ Commission presented a check to the city to assist Southfield veterans in need.
