Is your Section 8 waiting list open?

The Section 8 subsidized housing program is handled by the City's Housing Division, (248) 796-4170.

Where can I get free legal aid?

A free consultation with an attorney is available through Human Services Legal Aid Program. This service provides legal advice, document preparation and some follow-up.

Weren't you called Human Resources previously?

Yes, many years ago. Since then, we have been known as Human Services, to prevent any confusion with companies who use the "Human Resources" term to mean Personnel Department.

What kind of services do you provide?

Information and referral services for people in need of food, shelter, clothing and utility assistance; free legal aid service; administration of a few special programs, such as Focus: HOPE food for senior adults and the Southfield Goodfellows application process.

My utilities are going to be shut off for non-payment. Can you help me?

We provide financial assistance and referral information to sources able to assist, call (248) 796-4546.

I would like to rent the Historic Church or Gazebo. Who do I call?

Use of The 1854 Church and Gazebo are coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department , (248) 796-4624

How do I know if my child qualifies for a camp scholarship through Southfield Youth Assistance Commission?

Contact Southfield Youth Assistance Commission, (248) 746-7659, in the early spring of the year. Children and families qualify for scholarships based on financial need and other circumstances. 

Where can I get immediate assistance in a domestic violence situation?

Call 911 or Common Ground at 800-231-1127

Who do I call to receive immediate assistance following a traumatic experience, such as rape, abuse, etc.?

Call Common Ground, Oakland County's crisis response team, (800) 231-1127.

Where can a parent get computer training?

For information on computer training, introduction to computer applications and upgrading of computer skills, call the Southfield Career Center (248) 796-4550.
