Effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020, all Oakland County Michigan Works! offices are offering a limited number of services ONLY by telephone and virtual/remote services. Appointments are required. There will be no in-person services available at this time. Please call (248) 796-4580 to make an appointment.

All workshops, job fairs and large group activities have been postponed until further notice.  Due to the large increase in the volume of unemployment claims, it is recommended that individuals fill unemployment claims at non-peak hours.  Please consider filing your claim after 6:00 p.m. or very early in the morning.

Oakland County Michigan Works! Southfield Service Center of Oakland County, is a Division of the City of Southfield in cooperation with Southfield Public Schools. Funded by the Workforce Development Agency, State of Michigan (WDA, SOM) through the Oakland County Workforce Development Board to administer the following programs for job seekers and employers:

  • Employment Services
  • Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
  • Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA)*
  • Partnership, Accountability, Training, Hope (PATH)*

Southfield Michigan Works! is one of six Service Centers in Oakland County. As a One-Stop Center, we have designed our programs to fit our local needs, working together with our Business Development Department, Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce and schools to fulfill the WDA, SOM Mission Statement “to develop a system that produces a workforce with the required skills to maintain and enhance the Michigan Economy.”

Its major premise is that all major workforce development and economic development services should be available through a single point of entry. Southfield Michigan Works! focus is to help ensure that Michigan’s employers hire better educated and better trained employees.

The Southfield Michigan Works! office is located on Civic Center Drive between Northwestern Highway and Lahser Road, inside the Enterprise Center.

Building hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Faxing and computer use is available Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. First time visitors and individuals registering for Unemployment must arrive before 3:30 p.m.
