More than just an in-house public relations agency, the Community Relations Department also plans and hosts several special events throughout the year. In addition to the inauguration of Southfield’s newly-elected officials, Community Relations also coordinates:

  • The Boards and Commissions/Neighborhood Associations Recognition Dinner
  • Inauguration of Elected Officials
  • Memorial and Veterans' Day Ceremonies
  • Two annual community-wide American Red Cross Blood & Bone Marrow Drives
  • Community Pride Awards Ceremony

The department also works closely with other city departments such as Parks & Recreation to assist with the planning and promotion of additional special events, programs and activities such as:

  • Eat to the Beat lunchtime concerts
  • Burgh Gazebo summer concerts
