Absentee Ballots mailed and New Secure Drop-Off Boxes installed throughout the City
Please be advised that Absentee Ballots are currently being mailed out to all registered voters who have requested them. Due to the heavy volume, it may take several additional days to receive.
Secure Absentee Ballot Drop-Off Boxes
The City of Southfield has recently installed eight (8) new secure Absentee Ballot Drop-Off Boxes throughout the city. Click on the PDF link below to view all locations. Absentee ballots may be dropped off at any box 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week until 8 p.m. on November 3, 2020; however, voters are encouraged to not wait until the last minute to cast their vote.
The Southfield City Clerk’s Office will be open for extended hours for voting on the following days:
- Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.;
- Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 8 a.m. - noon;
- Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.; and
- Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Absent Voter Ballot
The State of Michigan is now a NO-reason absentee vote state, meaning residents can cast an absentee ballot without giving a reason.
Absent Voter Applications
Michigan law requires that a new application be completed for each election for which an absentee ballot is needed. To request an Application for Absent Voters Ballot, visit the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, 26000 Evergreen Road; contact the City Clerk's Office at (248) 796-5150, or download a copy of the application for Absent Voter Ballot Form. Please be sure to sign and print your full name and address on the application form.
If you are interested in receiving an Absent Voter Application for all future elections, please complete the Permanent Absent Voter Request Form and return it to the City Clerk's Office. Once your signature is received, your name will be recorded on a Permanent Absent Voter List to receive Absent Voter Applications for all future elections.
The City Clerk's Office will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Saturday prior to Election Day to accept and process Absent Voter Ballot Applications.
Absentee Ballots issued on the Monday prior to the Election must be voted on-site by 4 p.m.; they cannot leave the Municipal Building per State Election Law. All Absent Voter Ballots must be returned to the City Clerk's Office by 8 p.m. on Election night in order to be counted.
