SHP Community Bunk‑Bed Build Aims to Support Local Children in Need
December 23, 2025
The City of Southfield and Farmington Elks are partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) to host a community bunk‑bed build on Saturday, January 10, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Southfield Department of Public Works, 25501 Clara Lane. The event supports SHP’s mission to ensure that no child in the community sleeps on the floor. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early for check‑in and should wear work clothes that can get dirty or stained. Gloves, safety glasses, dust masks, water and donuts will be provided, though lunch will not be offered.
In addition to assembling beds, organizers are holding a bedding drive and are seeking donations of new twin‑size “bed‑in‑a‑bag” sets. These items will accompany the completed bunk beds and help provide children with warm, comfortable sleeping arrangements. SHP chapters across the region have reported increasing need, and organizers say the build offers residents a hands‑on way to support families facing hardship.
Residents interested in volunteering can sign up at https://x.gldn.io/e/UgdcimZI4Yb. Anyone with questions may contact Wendell Gramlich at 734‑331‑0567 or wendell.gramlich@shpbeds.org. Additional information about SHP’s work is available at facebook.com/SHPMIWesternWayneCo.
Organizers emphasize that the event is an opportunity for the community to come together and make a direct, meaningful impact on the lives of local children. No kid shoujl have to sleep on the floor.
