The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the cities of Southfield, Berkley and Oak Park, will host a public information meeting on Wednesday, September 24 about the planned 2026 resurfacing of Greenfield Road from Lincoln to 12 Mile Road in the three communities.

The meeting will be from 4 - 7 p.m. at Anderson Middle School, 3205 Catalpa Drive in Berkley. It will be an open-house format — there will not be a formal presentation, but anyone interested can stop in at any time during the meeting to review plans or discuss the project with RCOC staff.

The approximately $3.5 million project will be funded with federal funds and contributions from RCOC, Southfield, Berkley, Oak Park and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).

The project is expected to start in the spring of 2026 and be substantially completed in the summer.

The work includes:

  • Milling (grinding) off the old pavement.
  • Repaving with asphalt.
  • Reconstructing select concrete side-street approaches.
  • Repairing curbs and gutters.
  • Upgrading pedestrian crosswalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Upgrading the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) bus stops.
  • Modernizing traffic signals at the Greenfield Road mall entrance serving Kroger, the Greenfield Road/11 Mile Road intersection and the Greenfield Road/Catalpa Drive intersection.

During the project, one lane in each direction of this section of Greenfield will remain open to traffic. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

This section of Greenfield Road carries approximately 30,000 vehicles daily.

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting who requires special accommodations in accordance with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or Title VI, including those requiring language assistance, should call RCOC at 248-645-2000 and ask to be directed to the RCOC Engineering Department to submit your request. The Road Commission will provide such services free of charge, provided reasonable advance notice is given.
