Council President Pro Tem Coretta Houge

Council President Pro Tem Coretta Houge was appointed to the Southfield City Council in November 2022.

Coretta Houge has been a proud resident of the City of Southfield for more than 22 years.  For 7 years, she served on the City of Southfield’s Administrative Civil Service Commission, the Southfield Employee Retirement Board, and the Southfield Retiree Health Care Benefits and Trust Board.  Professionally, Houge has held various leadership positions within the Healthcare industry for over 30 years.

Houge received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, graduating Magna Cum Laude; she received her Master’s degree from Wayne State University, graduating Cum Laude. Houge is a graduate of Leadership Oakland, class of XXIV. Houge is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and is a member of Unity Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan.

Houge is the proud mother of Lester Houge, Jr., a graduate of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga; he is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Motherhood has been the most challenging, yet is the most rewarding accomplishment for Houge.

Houge prides herself on being a true servant leader and is honored to serve in this capacity for the City of Southfield and all its stakeholders.
