All proceeds will go towards the 9 Mile Corridor Public Art Project

Umoja Fine Arts Gallery will host a special fundraiser for the Friends of the Southfield Public Arts to fund public artwork to be installed along the Nine Mile Corridor. The fundraiser will take place on June 28 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Umoja Fine Arts Gallery located at 16250 Northland Drive, Suite 102 in Southfield.

The Nine Mile Corridor Public Art Project aims to increase the walkability and bikeability of Nine Mile Road while creating a vibrant streetscape, facilitating a robust community culture, and increasing business growth. The project involves several municipalities and aims to revitalize the corridor from Hazel Park to Farmington Hills. In the process, it aims to create an identity for common spaces that includes pathways, signage, benches, bike repair stations, public art and more. Southfield is currently working on the area which stretches from Greenfield to Lahser Road. The project is partially funded through a federal grant as part of the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).

The highlight of the event will be a meet and greet with Umoja Fine Arts artists in residence, Marcel Stewart and Rosemary Summers. Special guests include Mayor Dr. Ken Siver and representatives from the Friends of the Southfield Public Arts including Southfield Public Arts Commission Chair Delores Flagg. Light hors d’oeuvres and libations will be served during the event.

Tickets to the event can be purchased by making a tax-deductible donation to the Friends of the Southfield Public Arts for $50, $75, or $100 through PayPal at SFLDPublicArts@gmail.com or by check made payable to Friends of Southfield Public Arts.  Checks can be mailed to the City of Southfield, c/o Mayor’s Office, 26000 Evergreen Road, Southfield, MI 48037-2055. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Friends of Southfield Public Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering public art projects throughout Southfield.
