The Southfield Public Library is now offering Chromebooks for loan to residents of Southfield and Lathrup Village who have a Southfield Public Library card in good standing.

Residents who wish to check out a Chromebook can call the Library’s Technology Help line at (248) 796-4358 or speak with a Computer Assistant on the 1st or 3rd Floor of the library. Once reserved, the Chromebook can be picked up and checked out at the Circulation Desk in the lobby. Wi-Fi hotspots are also available at the library for patrons who need internet access.

“The Chromebook is a laptop computer that is very easy to use and is a fantastic tool for anyone,” commented Southfield Public Library Technology Coordinator Kenny Landa. “It can access the internet and there are useful apps and programs on the Chromebook as well. It’s great for almost everything you would use a PC or Mac for and is an excellent laptop for students doing online homework and taking online classes because it is lightweight, has a long battery life, and can be taken anywhere.”

Chromebooks are small, portable laptop computers commonly used to access the internet. Each Chromebook includes a mouse, power cord, and case. The Chromebooks are filtered to adhere to the library and U.S. federal requirements including the Children’s Internet Protection Act.

Chromebook and wi-fi hotspot availability was made possible thanks to funding from the Friends of the Southfield Public Library.
