The Southfield Public Library will host author Omar Tyree on July 19 from 2-4 p.m. at the Library, 26300 Southfield Road, as he talks about his renowned book Flyy Girl. This will be a great event to get together with friends and see Omar Tyree and find out more about Flyy Girl Tracy Ellison, making it both a trip down memory lane and looking into the future. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Omar Tyree and Flyy Girl helped define Urban Fiction books. The books give the reader a glimpse inside of the hardships and joys of living in an inner-city urban neighborhood. The Flyy Girl book series have inspired millions of young, urban American girls to read and write their own stories in the 1990’s and 2000’s. Reestablishing the book series with an all-in Flyy Girl brand for the next generation exposes Tyree's work to millions of new, young supporters, while giving them lesson filled stories that elevate each reader.

"This event will be special because Omar Tyree will be introducing a new generation to his Flyy Girl book trilogy,” said Tiffani Ellison, Adult Services Librarian, Southfield Public Library. “This event will also give the community the opportunity to see what our library has to offer to help people succeed. I see this as being an exciting event for the community to get a chance to meet an author in person whose books they may have grown up reading.  This event will also be a great opportunity to get adults excited about reading and coming back to the library with their families.”

Omar Tyree is a New York Times bestselling author, NAACP Image Award-winner, recipient of the Phillis Wheatley Literary Award, journalist, speaker, entrepreneur and filmmaker. A graduate of Howard University’s School of Communications, Tyree has written more than twenty books with over two million copies in print.
