The Southfield Public Library will host its 20th Anniversary Celebration on September 10 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. at the Southfield Public Library, 26300 Evergreen Road.

Join the Southfield Public Library in recognizing 20 years in its current building and all those who made it happen. There will be a library open house to show off what the library has to offer including: technology demonstrations, library tours, music, special story times, a selfie station and a Kona Ice Truck. The event will kick off with an unveiling of the new Library Card Design Contest winners followed by a performance by the Southfield Arts & Technology High School Marching Band and brief remarks from the Library Board of Trustees, Friends of the Southfield Public Library, and City Officials. The Chamberlin Petting Zoo will open at 2 p.m., and there will also be music by Dreams Deferred, who will perform a mix of R&B, Motown, Blues and Jazz.

“The library can help the community in so many ways,” stated Kelly Rembert, outreach Librarian. “We want to take this day to showcase how the library can help you succeed.  We help children learn and grow.  We help adults with their research and job skills.  We help everyone have fun and be their best selves. We want to take this opportunity to showcase all that the library is and will how we continue to grow with the community.”
“Today is a day both to celebrate our past and anticipate our future,” stated City Librarian Mary Beall. “Most of all, it is a day to thank our community for all the ways they have supported, championed, and helped us succeed in our mission.”

This event is free and open to the public. Come celebrate with the library as they recognize their anniversary and enjoy many more years to come.
