On behalf of the Southfield City Centre and Lawrence Technological University (LTU), we are happy to invite you to participate in the first of two virtual Town Hall meetings to collaborate on the vision and creation of two triptych mosaic murals to be installed along the new LTU pathway in Spring 2021. The virtual event will be held via Zoom invite from 5:30-7:00 PM on Thursday, November 19, 2020. Please RSVP to Kyle Bryce, Planner, at kbryce@cityofsouthfield.com to receive your invite.

The artist, Hubert Massey's philosophy and approach to design and implementation emphasize engaging the advisory board, neighborhood and members of the larger community. This process would traditionally include two public forums, during which individual stakeholders and representatives of local organizations and institutions are invited to share their ideas for the most expressive and appropriate image or images. The approach is to solicit input and conduct research concerning symbols to be incorporated with the vision that help convey a mood and message that will resonate with those viewing the mural.

A series of prepared questions will be developed and distributed at the first formal community forum in a process that enables attendees to record their thoughts and contribute to the project’s development. Sample sketches will be produced after the initial community forum and presented at the second event. The second forum will present ideas that have been woven into several preliminary art selections that committee and community-at-large members can discuss and help critique. This process of direct communication will help ensure a rendering that reflects the spirit of collaboration and community.
