Southfield Parks & Recreation invites all ages to color with Naturally ILLustraded’s Sherrie Savage at the Between the Lines Coloring Café as part of the Southfield Celebrates Black History Month on February 22 from 1- 4 p.m. at the Beech Woods Recreation Center, 22200 Beech Road (south of Nine Mile Road).

Professional illustrator and graphic designer Sherrie Savage enjoys sharing her life’s journey through her drawings. After beginning her natural hair journey in 2013, Sherrie was inspired to sketch her hair story. The Naturally ILLustrated Hairstory, created in 2016, uses illustrations as a creative tool to educate and promote self-love to black women and children. Naturally ILLustrated is a series of black and white illustrations that reflect curls, coils and kinky hair types. This event is free and open to all ages.

The Southfield Parks & Recreation Department is presenting a number of special programs this February as part of ‘Southfield Celebrates Black History Month’ to remember the contributions and celebrate the history of African-Americans. The month-long celebration included the Southfield Celebrates Black History Month’ kick-off event on February 1; Black History Movie Night on February 7 featuring the documentary 13th; the new Conversations & Cocktails event on February 15 and The Spirit of Harriet Tubman play on February 17; Between the Lines Coloring Café featuring Naturally ILLustraded on February 22; and concluding on February 28 with the return of The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers event.
