The Southfield Police Department will host Coffee with a Cop on select Mondays: May 13, May 20, and May 27 from 8-10 a.m. at Tim Horton’s, 19701 W 12 Mile Road Southfield. On Monday, May 20 Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren will also be in attendance.

Join your neighbors and police officers for coffee and conversation to break down barriers between police and the residents.  These events provide opportunities to ask questions, voice concerns, and to get to know the officers in the community, essentially, building relationships one cup of coffee at a time.

Coffee with A Cop is a nonprofit organization that was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011 when Officers from the Hawthorne Police Department were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day. The Hawthorne Police Department hit upon a simple plan to break through the barriers that have been built over the years–a cup of coffee. Coffee with a Cop events are now held in all 50 states and is one of the most successful community-oriented policing programs across the country. The key to Coffee with a Cop’s growing success is that it opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together.
