Virtual Summer Classes Begin

Parks & Recreation summer programs look much different this year! Old favorites have become new with Camp on the Go, Recreation on the Move - In a Bag or the Summer in the City Virtual Concerts seen on Facebook. Others are completely new and virtual. Check out the Parks & Recreation Virtual Activities Guide online at https://www.cityofsouthfield.com/sites/default/files/2020-06/summer2020guidefinal_5.pdf for details on all our exciting summer classes for kids like Virtual Gymnastics, Ballet and Hip Hop Jazz along with fitness and dance classes for adults as well. Registration can now be done online 24 hours a day at https://apm.activecommunities.com/SouthfieldParks  Once registered for a virtual program you will receive a link each week to tune into the class. You must have a computer or smart device to follow these classes. Call (248) 796-4620 for more information on our Summer 2020 programs.

Camp on the Go our new program featuring a week’s worth of “camp-like” activities and games for kids ages 5-13 to do in the safety of their own homes, kicks off on July 6 with Stars & Stripes week. Each Camp on the Go kit is $25 per child and contains supplies for 2-3 arts and crafts projects, 5 games or activities, one piece of equipment for a physical or outdoor activity and more fun. Participants are reminded to tune into the @SouthfieldParksandRecreation page at 11 am Monday through Friday for craft and activity videos. This week’s schedule is:

  • Monday, July 6 at 11:00 a.m. -- Mosaic Flag Craft
  • Tuesday, July 7 at 11:00 a.m. -- 4th of July Fruit Pizza
  • Wednesday, July 8 at 11:00 a.m. -- Patriotic Glasses
  • Thursday, July 9 at 11:00 a.m. -- Doorknob Hangers
  • Friday, July 10 at 11:00 a.m. -- Make Your Own Playdoh

Recreation on a Move – In a Bag activity kits will be available to the first 25 kids to visit us at Bauervic Woods Park (Nine Mile Road just west of Evergreen Road) from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, July 7 and at Inglenook Park (Twelve Mile Road between Evergreen Road and Lahser) on Thursday, July 9 from 5-7 pm. Enjoy your favorite park crafts from our traditional Recreation on the Move program in the safety of your home. This program is sponsored by DENSO North America.

Putting Clinic at Evergreen Hills Golf Course

Sign up today for our first Putting Clinic of the season at the Evergreen Hills Golf Course. Work on mastering your putting game with PGA teaching Pro Terri Ryan on the putting green Monday, July 6 from 4-5 pm. This semi-private lesson, limited to 3-6 people to allow for proper social distancing, is just $15 per person. If you can’t make it out Monday, there will also be a clinic on Wednesday, July 8 from 12-1 pm. Semi-private Golf Lessons at Beech Woods Driving Range

Work on your putting or chipping game this week in a small, semi-private lesson at the Beech Woods Driving Range. These lessons, taught by PGA teaching Pro Terri Ryan, will be limited to 3-6 people per session to allow for proper social distancing. Join Terry at the range on Thursday, July 9 from 11:30 am-12:30 pm to focus on your Putting game, or from 1-2 pm to work on Chipping. Each 1-hour session is $15 per person.
