Emmanuel Community Farm

The Southfield Parks and Garden Club (SP&GC) will hold an open house at Emmanuel Community Farm on Saturday, August 17 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Farm is located on the grounds of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 23425 Lahser Road just north of 9 Mile Road.

The public is invited to tour the all-volunteer farm that uses only organic seed and agriculturally sustainable farming methods to enable the harvest of a wide variety of produce that is donated to Forgotten Harvest for distribution to soup kitchens and food pantries.

The Farm was established in 2008 as a voluntary charitable program/partnership between the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Southfield Parks & Garden Club. The sole purpose of the Farm is to feed the hungry. Fruits and vegetables are grown in natural and sustainable conditions (as close to organic as possible) and all of the harvest is donated to a local non-profit organization for distribution in southeastern Michigan. The Farm is also open to the public (in season) on Sundays from 1-4 p.m.

The Southfield Parks and Garden Club was formed in 2005 as a charitable community service organization comprised of volunteers who work to improve and beautify the city. The Club regularly conducts litter pick-ups, plantings, cleaning up landscapes for elderly residents, and clearing and mapping city park trails. The Southfield Parks and Garden Club membership and projects reflect a wide cross-section of residents, skill levels and interests. Gardening enthusiasts and community-minded individuals of all backgrounds are encouraged to join and participate as their schedule permits. SP&GC holds monthly meetings and work days March through October.

The Southfield Parks and Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Membership is annual, March through November, with dues of $25, or $200 for lifetime membership.  Dues are tax-deductible as are gifts and donations. The Southfield Parks and Garden Club (SP&GC) is always seeking new members and donors to assist with the Club’s many community outreach and beautification activities throughout the city.
