Southfield Human Services partners with Legal Aid and Defender Association to provide free Legal services for Veterans

The Southfield Human Services department has partnered with Legal Aid and Defender Association to provide free legal services for Veterans. Services are provided every second Monday of each month April through September as well as on December 9 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. 

The Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc. provides legal services to veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. They can help with legal matters, such as:

  • Homelessness prevention (eviction, repairs, mortgage or tax foreclosure, etc.);
  • Consumer (debt collection, garnishments, bankruptcy, etc.);
  • Family Law (divorce, child support, PPO, etc.);
  • Public Benefits such as food assistance/food stamps;
  • Employment/Unemployment law matters;
  • Criminal Record Expungement and License Restoration; and
  • Estate planning (powers of attorney, patient advocate designations).

This service is funded by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
