Southfield Connects Entrepreneurs to Regional Resources for Growth
September 22, 2025
The City of Southfield continues to strengthen its reputation as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship by connecting local businesses with the wealth of resources offered through its regional partners. Through collaborations with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Oakland County, Oakland Thrive, and Lawrence Technological University’s Centrepolis Accelerator, Southfield entrepreneurs gain access to expertise, funding, mentorship, and technical support that help them scale and succeed.
Southfield’s Business & Economic Development team, led by Director Rochelle Freeman and Deputy Director Sarah Mulally, is committed to more than local support. They serve as guides, helping entrepreneurs navigate the extensive regional ecosystem of resources. Whether it’s financial assistance through MEDC and Oakland County Economic Development programs, workforce support through Oakland County Michigan Works Southfield, business coaching through Oakland Thrive, or product development resources at LTU’s Centrepolis Accelerator, Southfield ensures entrepreneurs have a direct line to the tools they need. “Entrepreneurship is about more than just having an idea—it’s about having the support to bring that idea to life,” said Mulally. “By leveraging our regional partnerships, we’re making sure Southfield’s entrepreneurs don’t have to go it alone.”
These partnerships are already fueling growth. Southfield businesses have tapped into:
- Capital and incentives from MEDC & Oakland County Economic Development to expand and invest in new facilities.
- Workforce development and training programs through Oakland County Michigan Works Southfield to prepare talent pipelines.
- Business coaching and operational guidance via Oakland Thrive and other similar organizations to stabilize and expand operations.
- Prototyping, testing, and commercialization support through Centrepolis to bring new products to market.
By championing these partnerships, Southfield is positioning itself not only as a supportive home for entrepreneurs, but also as a gateway to broader regional and state-level opportunities. “Southfield businesses don’t just have the City behind them—they have the strength of an entire region,” said Mayor Kenson Siver. “Our role is to open doors, connect people to resources, and make sure every entrepreneur has the chance to grow, innovate, and succeed right here in Southfield.” Together with its dynamic local team and strong regional partners, Southfield is creating a powerful environment where businesses can thrive at every stage of growth.
