The Southfield Chapter of My Brother’s Keeper will host ‘Meal with a Message’ on Saturday, December 15 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Southfield Parks & Recreation building, 26000 Evergreen Road.

Young men of color in grades 6-12 are invited to join the members of My Brother’s Keeper for a taco lunch and conversation focusing on personal coping tools for dealing with loss. Statistics show that teens are faced with many different forms of grief: the loss of a family member, parent in the military, or even the passing of a pet. Dealing with such situations is difficult for anyone, but can be especially difficult for young men who may feel as though they don’t have an outlet to express themselves. ‘Meal with a Message’ will give young men the tools they need for dealing with loss.

To RSVP for ‘Meal with a Message,” contact JoAnn Gurley, Esq. at 1-248-796-4503 or jgurley@cityofsouthfield.com or Rhonda Terry at 1-248-796-4542 or rterry@cityofsouthfield.com. Space is limited and all participants must pre-register.

My Brother’s Keeper is a national initiative that focuses on teaching boys and young men of color how to be impactful leaders in their community and achieve academic success. The Southfield chapter of My Brother’s Keeper co-sponsors an annual youth symposium designed to help young men develop life skills and gain valuable information needed to succeed. The youth symposium serves hundreds of male students from local school districts each year. The group has also organized a youth job fair, necktie collection for young men and sponsored motivational events.
