The Southfield Chapter of My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) is launching a “Mask with a Message” donation drive from June 1-15 to provide new face coverings and hand sanitizer for local children and teenagers in need. Please note location change: Donations can now be placed anytime in the labeled bin located inside the front lobby of the Southfield Police Department, 26000 Evergreen Road.

Donors are also requested to include a message dedicated to someone they lost or who has recovered from COVID-19 so recipients will better understand how this virus has  greatly affected our community.

“We are all adjusting to the new normal brought upon by the novel coronavirus,” commented JoAnne Gurley, MBK Program Coordinator. “No population has been spared by COVID-19, including young people. Since it has been mandated that face coverings be worn in public places by the State of Michigan as well as national and local health departments, it is imperative that our youth have the proper protection to stay safe this summer.”

MBK-Southfield Chapter will distribute the donated items to youth during a drive-up distribution later in June. For questions, email jgurley@cityofsouthfield.com or call (248) 796-4503.
