My Brother’s Keeper to hold "Ready, Set, Go! Rally" on October 21 at Southfield A&T High School

The Southfield Chapter of My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) will sponsor a “Ready, Set, Go!” Rally on October 21 from 12-2 p.m. at Southfield A&T High School (24675 Lahser Road) for young men of color. 

 

The Rally will be hosted by Jermont Terry of WDIV-Channel 4. The free event is open to male students in 6-12th grades. Dentists Dr. Jaclyn Smith and Dr. Sean Jackson will be providing free dental check-ups with signed parental consent. There will also be free haircuts, health information, a 3-point basketball competition and refreshments. Pre-registration is required. Call 1-248-796-4503 or 1-248-796-4542 to sign up. 

 

MBK-Southfield Chapter is accepting donations of male toiletries such as soap, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, deodorant, socks, undershirts in men’s sizes, medium to xx- large and prizes for the basketball tournament. Donations can be dropped off to the Human Services department from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Human Services is located on the first floor of Southfield City Hall at 26000 Evergreen Road. 

 

My Brother’s Keeper is an initiative started by former President Barack Obama to help inspire young men of color to succeed academically. This is the fifth community event that MBK-Southfield Chapter has hosted.
