Cooling Center open in Southfield Library July 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The City of Southfield has opened a cooling center at the Southfield Public Library in the Meeting Room today, July 24, until 8 p.m. The Meeting Room is located straight back from the main entrance on the first floor.

Water and a charging station will be available for those in attendance.


COOLING CENTER GUIDELINES:

  1. The Center will be open on a first-come, first-served basis.
  2. Respect people, personal property and privacy. No weapons, alcohol, illegal drugs, matches, or tobacco use allowed.
  3. No photographs may be taken in the center.
  4. Prescription and over-the-counter drugs in original containers only.
  5. Service animals are permitted; however, they must remain with owner at all times.
  6. Children must always be supervised.
  7. Keep items off the floor to prevent trips and falls and for wheelchair accessibility.
  8. Guests are responsible for their own valuables. City of Southfield is not liable for any loss or damage to personal vehicles or property.
  9. Appropriate dress, including shirts and shoes, is required at all times.
  10. Tables and chairs will be available. Electrical outlets, charging stations and public restrooms are available. The Center is not set up to accommodate overnight shelter or serve meals.
  11. Wash hands frequently, especially after using the restrooms and before handling food.
  12. Vending machines are available onsite. Coffee, water and granola bars may be provided.
  13. There are no medical services provided at the Center. For emergencies call 9-1-1.
  14. Management reserves the right to remove individuals from the Center, at any time.
