The Southfield Parks & Recreation department, in partnership with Meijer, will host the 35th annual Southfield Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 4 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve, Ten Mile Road, east of Inkster.

The Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve features two areas to fish, both stocked for the event. Participants are not required to secure a Fishing License for the event. All anglers are encouraged to bring their own equipment, bait (a single hook with artificial or live worms used as bait is recommended), a wagon or backpack to transport your gear from the parking lot to the lake, baby wipes, paper towels and hand sanitizer. The Fishing Derby is a free event and pre-registration is not required.

Please note there is an almost half-mile walk through the woods to reach the lake from the parking area. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather.
