The City of Southfield will celebrate the groundbreaking of its new Aquatic Center on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 4 p.m. outside the Southfield Sports Arena, located at 26000 Evergreen Road.

The approximately $26 million project represents a significant investment in recreational opportunities for Southfield residents. Plans include construction of a 28,000-square-foot addition, renovation of approximately 10,000 square feet of existing facility space and demolition of the former outdoor pool.

The new Aquatic Center will feature a variety of aquatic attractions designed to accommodate swimmers, families and fitness enthusiasts.

New Aquatic Amenities

Lap Pool: A 75-foot, four-lane swimming pool equipped with starting blocks.

Recreational and Leisure Pool: A 4,900-square-foot pool with zero-depth entry and interactive water features.

Lazy River: A recreational water attraction featuring spray elements and a conversation cove.

Indoor/Outdoor Water Slide: A water slide that travels outside the building before returning indoors.

Therapeutic Pool: A dedicated pool for water aerobics, aquatic fitness and low-impact exercise, featuring built-in benches, jets and in-water seating.

Children's Water Play Area: A splash pad with pool bubblers, spray features, interactive ground-level water jets and double kiddie racer slides.

Facility Improvements and Community Spaces

In addition to the aquatic attractions, the project will include renovated main entrances and common areas, new locker rooms, a new event space, a wet classroom for aquatic instruction, a renovated lounge corridor and an updated multipurpose room.

These improvements are intended to create a more versatile facility that supports aquatic recreation, fitness, educational activities and community gatherings.
