City of Southfield 60th Anniversary Community Celebration set for Sunday, April 29

Free family event will feature live entertainment, food trucks and more! 

 

 

The city of Southfield will host the 60th Anniversary Community Celebration on Sunday, April 29 from 2-6 p.m. at the Southfield Municipal Campus, 26000 Evergreen Road.

 

Attendees can expect great food, fun and entertainment for the whole family with free admission, parking and all activities at no cost with the exception of food available for purchase. The Passport to Southfield program will take place in the Southfield Pavilion where guests will be able to visit with city departments, neighborhood associations and community groups to learn more about our unique and vibrant community. Every attendee that gets five or more stamps on their passport will receive a special 60th anniversary swag bag full of fun and useful items (while supplies last). There will also be activities to keep the kids entertained in the Pavilion including free face painting, a caricature artist, stilt walker who also makes balloon animals, and of course anniversary cake and cupcakes. Additionally, a free commemorative Southfield 60th Anniversary coloring book, sponsored by the City Centre Advisory Board, will be available for children young and old to color and enjoy. 

 

The celebration will continue on the city hall front lawn with the Windjammers professional kite flying team demonstrating their amazing techniques. The front lawn activities will also include strolling performers such as clowns, more face painters, caricature artists, rock climbing tower and live entertainment provided by the Main Element Motown Band. Delicious food and drink will be available for purchase from some of the area’s best food trucks, including Bigalora wood-fired pizzas; SoupDive soups and salads; and Hero or Villain Deli featuring a wide variety of gourmet sandwiches. Children’s activities will include a number of inflatables (must wear socks) from a giant obstacle course to a fun bounce house. Free ice skating will be available in the Southfield Sports Arena as well. 

 

The Southfield Fire Department will offer tours of the Fire Safety House, a fire truck and EMS unit in the circle drive in front of the Southfield Public library. The Southfield Police Department will also be on hand with police cruiser displays, the Mobile Command Unit and the Police Department’s K-9 Division will conduct demonstrations.
