Southfield Adult Recreation Center 50+ Activities

The Southfield Adult Recreation Center 50+ is committed to helping Southfield seniors get and stay active, physically and mentally, through a number of classes, monthly programs and trip opportunities. The Southfield Scribe, a quarterly newsletter published by the Center, contains many details about these programs. For more details on senior activities you can download a copy of the April-June 2010 Southfield Scribe newsletter (pdf) here, call us at (248) 796-4650, or e-mail nmessina@cityofsouthfield.com.

Some monthly activities at the Center include:

Day Trips
Some of the most popular day trips departing from the Adult Recreation Center 50+ are the Monthly Casino Trips. Participants are able to spend the day at one of the area casinos and, in some cases, enjoy special packages from the casino including coins and/or food vouchers. (Please note that casino packages are subject to change without prior notice.)

Trips are also taken to various events or locations throughout the area including trips to music programs such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, museums or other points of interest. Registration is limited for all day trips and all participants must have proper picture I.D. with them on the trip.

Flyers with further details regarding day trips and other Adult Recreation Center 50+ events are available from the Center office, open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Wednesday until 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. All trips depart from the Adult Recreation Center 50+ unless otherwise noted. A bus may be requested to pick up off-site if there are five or more passengers. Off-site bus pick up registration must be completed two weeks in advance. We reserve the right to deny access to any applicants we deem unable to follow the trip guidelines.

Afternoon Movies
Join your friends at the Adult Recreation Center 50+ every other Wednesday afternoon for a great recent movie viewing. Your $1 admission price includes popcorn and punch. The show begins at 1:00 p.m. in the dining room of the Center.

Dining Out
Visit area restaurants for an enjoyable dinner with friends. Transportation cost is $5 (unless otherwise noted); participants pay for their food and tip separately.

Shop Till You Drop
These monthly trips to area shopping malls fill up fast so be sure to reserve your space today! The bus departs from the Adult Recreation Center 50+, usually in the morning, and returns in the early afternoon. That leaves you with at least a couple of hours to hit the sales! Transportation cost is $5 unless otherwise noted.
