2 Family Pool Parties Planned for July
Don't let the heat of July get you down. Grab the family and head to the Southfield Sports Arena pool for a Family Pool Party. Pool Parties are planned for Tuesday, July 7 and Tuesday, July 21 from 5:30-9:00 p.m. at the Southfield Sports Arena outdoor pool (26000 Evergreen Road). Admission is $5 per person for Southfield residents ($7/Non-resident of Southfield) with a special buy one Adult ticket ticket and get one child ticket free. Tickets will be available at the door the day of the event.
Pool Party activities include slot car racing with Miniature Motorways, basketball, games and activities and a Rock Wall and Extreme Air Jumpers. All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a responsible guardian over the age of 15. Summer Camp Registration Going On Now
Registration for the Southfield Parks & Recreation Department’s summer day camp program for 2009 is currently taking place. Camps are offered from June 15 through August 21 at various sites throughout the City. Camps Tadpole (ages 5-6-years-old), Wildwood (ages 7-8), and Evergreen (ages 9-12) will take place at the Southfield Civic Center Complex (26000 Evergreen Road) and feature latchkey for an addition fee. Camp Kaleidoscope (for ages 5-12-years-old) will take place at the John Grace Community Center (21030 Indian Street) and will offer weekly sessions and latchkey for an additional fee. Individual sports camps focusing on volleyball, golf, basketball, soccer and tennis will be held at various sites throughout the city. When registering for any camp program parents must register in person, show child’s Birth Certificate, sign medical/liability forms, provide medical and insurance information along with emergency phone contact numbers and pay all registration fees. Southfield Teen Drop-In Provides Friendship and Fun for Ages 12-14
The City of Southfield Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to announce the return of the Teen Drop-In program for summer 2009. If you know someone between the ages of 12 and 14 who enjoys zoos, wave pools, batting cages, laser tag, go-carts, amusement parks, metro parks, and other amazing activities, give the City of Southfield’s Teen Drop-In program a try.
The Teen Drop-In program runs from 9:00 am-4:30 pm Monday through Friday and offers six sessions, beginning July 6 and running through August 14. Each weeklong session costs only $150 and includes transportation, admission to all venues, and supervision by City of Southfield Parks and Recreation staff.
Registration is ongoing at the Parks and Recreation building, 26000 Evergreen, Southfield. Please bring your driver’s license, your child’s birth certificate, emergency contact phone numbers, and be prepared to fill out a Medical Release Form at the time of registration. Discount Amusement Park Tickets On Sale!

The Southfield Parks & Recreation Department, in association with the MRPA, is selling tickets for selected area amusement parks at discount rates. Tickets are available to:  Cedar Point, Michigan Adventure, the Michigan State Fair, Oakland County’s Waterford & Red Oaks Wave Pools and Six Flags Great America themepark. Tickets are on sale through September 5 (Labor Day weekend). You must come in person to the Parks & Recreation Information Desk (26000 Evergreen Road) to purchase tickets. We do not accept checks as payment for amusement park tickets, cash and credit cards (Visa or MasterCard) only. For more information, please call (248) 796-4620.

 

 

Did You Know?

  • The Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for 780 acres of park land and open space at 33 sites throughout the City. Of the 780 acres of park land, over 333 acres are dedicated nature preserves.

  • The City of Southfield is home of Michigan’s first baseball field for children with any physical or mental disability. Working with The Miracle League, the City constructed a special field designed with a custom synthetic turf and handicapped accessible dugouts, restrooms and drinking fountains.
  • The Parks & Recreation Department offers hundreds of recreation programs at facilities which include two nine-hole golf courses, a lighted driving range, a 50-meter outdoor swimming pool, a senior adult center, an indoor athletic field house, an indoor ice arena and a neighborhood recreation center.

  • The Senior Gardens at the Mary Thompson Farm provide plots to over 100 enthusiastic gardeners who offer tours to school and scouting groups. The Senior Gardens have been recognized as one of the best community gardens in the nation by the John Deere Company and have received numerous awards from the Michigan State Fair.
