The City of Southfield Police Department provides a wide range of services to its residents and visitors.  Through the deployment of marked and unmarked patrol units, in conjunction with a well-trained Investigative Division and Crime Prevention Unit, the officers of Southfield strive to make the city a great place to visit, work and live.

The Southfield Police Department has been honored with many recognitions for outstanding service by the Michigan Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Michigan Crime Prevention Association, Crime Stoppers of Michigan, the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Michigan State Traffic Safety Commission.

The primary function of the Department is to deter crime, stop crimes in progress, investigate crimes and serve as first responders for emergencies and other situations that threaten public safety.  Our officers are amongst the highest trained in the region, with specializations ranging from evidence collection to active shooter response.

Our officers are supported by the most up-to-date technology. From current laptop computers in patrol vehicles to portable fingerprint readers our officers are provided with the best tools to serve and protect.  Aided by a full service, on-site 911 Dispatch Center, our officers quickly respond to calls for service with the confidence of knowing that they can make informed decisions on scenes.

Personal development of our officers is a high priority.  Developing and encouraging a leadership style that benefits the community and our officers starts from within.  Officers are encouraged to become part of the decision-making process, participate in higher level and supervisory training, and focus on the community-based approach to police work that dominates the Southfield Police Department’s culture.

The Southfield Police Department prides itself with its community partnerships.  Through the Community Policing Unit, our officers work with local businesses, schools, and individuals to not only prevent and solve crimes, but to foster long-lasting community relations.  Our officers are often seen at community events educating citizens and participating in events like Shop with a Cop and the Walk to Raise Awareness for Domestic Violence.

The Southfield Police Department’s officer selection process ensures that the city is served by highly educated, ethical and honorable individuals.  That in combination with being exceptionally trained, having state of the art equipment, and progressive leadership makes our department one of the most elite in the state.
