Infrastructure

The City of Southfield leads metro Detroit in offering quality infrastructure, from its central location and access to major roadways to a fully wired fiber network. The City’s infrastructure is in good position to adequately supply the needs of the residential and business communities into the future.

Road System

Southfield is 20-30 minutes from downtown Detroit, Detroit Metro Airport and most other locations in southeast Michigan, including Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, and Mt. Clemens. The headquarters of Daimler Chrysler, Ford and General Motors all are located within 20 minutes of Southfield.

Southfield’s roadways total 286 miles, including 243 miles of major and local roads. Oakland County owns and maintains 21 miles, and the State of Michigan 22 miles of roadway within the City.

Major highways include: Reuther Freeway (I-696), Southfield Freeway (M-39), Lodge Freeway (US-10), Telegraph Road (US-24), Eight Mile Road (M-102) and Northwestern Highway. In addition, two major north/south freeways, I-75 and I-275, are five miles from Southfield’s borders.
