The Human Resources Department is responsible for recruiting and processing applicants for the City's career (continuing) positions only. Seasonal, summer and part-time non-career"positions are filled by the specific departments that employ such workers.

Career Positions

A Job Opportunity Announcement identifies the salary, duties, and requirements for vacant posted positions. You may obtain this information in a variety of ways.

Vacant positions are advertised in a variety of print sources, including the Southfield Eccentric, Michigan Chronicle, and others.

The City’s public access channel, City Cable 15, announces vacancies during regular programming.

Please note that some vacant positions are posted as internal transfer or promotional opportunities only; the public is not permitted to apply for these positions.

Non - Career Positions

Summer, seasonal and part-time opportunities include lifeguards, day camp aides and counselors, highway and park maintenance workers, golf starters, skate guards, library aides and many others. Applications for these positions are not obtained from, or processed by, the Human Resources Department. The following departments typically employ non-career workers; each department/program will assist you with information on its selection process.

Parks & Recreation - Summer positions usually are listed by February of each year.

Library

Non-Career Library Assistants and Library Aides are employed year-round. Such employees assist in book shelving, processing materials, circulation desk duties and other support functions. They generally work a flexible schedule of 15 - 19 hours per week, which includes some evening and weekend hours. Library Attendants work evenings during the school year to maintain order during peak use periods. Information on current openings can be found on the Library's Web site.
