Southfield City Clerk’s Office open Saturday, July 31 to process Absent Voter Ballot requests

Gubernatorial Primary Election to be held on Tuesday, August 3

The Southfield City Clerk’s Office will be open on Saturday, July 31 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. to process Absent Voter Ballot requests at City Hall, 26000 Evergreen Road.

The Gubernatorial Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 3 at 19 precinct locations throughout the city. The Gubernatorial General Election will be held on November 2, 2010. Polls will be open both days from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Michigan election law states that voters must be registered to vote 30 days prior to an election and that a new Absent Voter Ballot Application be completed for each election for which an absentee ballot is needed.

"If voters are interested in receiving an Absent Voter Application for all future elections, they can complete the Permanent Absent Voter Request Form and return it to the City Clerk's Office," commented City Clerk Nancy L.M. Banks, MMC. "Once the application is processed, a voter’s name will be recorded on a Permanent Absent Voter List to receive Absent Voter Applications for all future elections."

The last day to obtain and vote an Absent Voter's Ballot is Monday, August 2 by 4 p.m. for the August Primary Election; Monday, November 1 by 4 p.m. for the November General Election.  These Absentee Ballots must be voted on-site; they cannot leave the Municipal Building per State Election Law.  All Absent Voter Ballots must be returned to the City Clerk's Office by 8 p.m. on Election night in order to be counted.
