The city of Southfield will host The Great Southfield Camp Out Saturday, July 31 – Sunday, August 1 at the Beech Woods Recreation Center located at 22200 Beech Road one block south of Nine Mile Road.
Campers young and old are invited to bring their tents, air mattresses, blankets and lawn chairs for a fun-filled outdoor camping experience right in the city. Camp set up will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 31 and camp tear down will be between 9-11 a.m. on Sunday, August 1. Activities will include Oakland County Mobile Recreation, storytelling, a family fitness demonstration, crafts, and the Decorate Your Campsite Contest with the theme of your favorite holiday. Transportation will also be provided to and from the Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve for hikes and tours. A campfire marshmallow roast will conclude the evening followed by a hot breakfast of hotcakes, sausage, juice and coffee served at first light.
The campout is $40 for residents and $80 for non–residents (per family) which includes all activities and breakfast on Sunday. A group discount is also available to groups of ten or more for $40. Each campsite is 20’ x 20’and the campout is limited to the first 50 families to register. A hot dog dinner and snacks will be available for purchase. There will be no electricity available and generators will not be allowed. Cooking will also not permitted on sight; however, precooked foods and snacks will be allowed. Camp sites will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
