Brenda L. Lawrence will present the free Let’s Move Summer Fitness Camp
for youth on Friday, July 23 from 4-8 p.m. at the Southfield Municipal
Complex, 26000 Evergreen Road. Radio Disney will be on site with music,
interactive games and prizes from 4-5:30 p.m.!
The camp is designed to promote
physical fitness, healthy eating habits and healthy lifestyles in a fun
and active way for youth ages eight through 12-years-old. The camp is
part of a national program started by First Lady Michelle Obama to
foster physical fitness and healthy lifestyles in the nation’s youth.
“Too many young people today do not
eat balanced, healthy meals or get enough exercise,” commented Mayor
Brenda Lawrence. “It is vitally important to teach our youth healthy
eating and exercise habits that will carry over into adulthood. I
envision this program that to be one that is both fun and educational –
inspiring and challenging young people to get off the couch and become
more physically fit and active.”
The Let’s Move Summer Fitness Camp
will include an overview of proper stretching and warm-up techniques,
healthy eating habits and other healthy living and fitness information
presented in a fun and interactive way. Each participant will also
receive a free Let’s Move Camp t-shirt, swimming at the Sports Arena
Pool, and a healthy meal consisting of lean chicken breast, vegetables
and other sides. The camp is open to all Southfield students or children
of parents who work or worship in the city. The program is sponsored by
Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Health Alliance Plan, St. John Providence
Hospital, and Michigan First Credit Union. In order to participate,
parents must register their child by calling the Mayor’s Office at (248)
796-5100 or e-mail email@example.com
by Wednesday, August 21.
