Construction Projects

The City of Southfield makes every effort to maintain and repair all roads within the City's jurisdiction in a timely manner. Thanks in part to the passage of the Southfield Streets Improvement Bond, the City of Southfield will lead nearly every community in Oakland County in active road construction projects for the 2015 season. A detailed overview of all constructions projects taking place throughout the city as well as construction updates can be found here. 2015 Road & Sewer Construction Projects



9 Mile (Beech to Telegraph)

The proposed project will widen the two lane road to a three lane road with a continuous center left turn lane and concrete curbs.  Improvements include milling off the existing asphalt overlay, 3” cover of stone and then overlaying with 5.5” of asphalt.

  • 1 east bound lane of traffic during construction

North Bound Northwestern Service Drive (8 Mile to 9 Mile)

The proposed improvements include reducing the service drive from three lanes to two lanes, milling off the existing asphalt overlay and overlaying with 4” of asphalt. Pedestrian upgrades include accessible crossings over two bridges with some new sidewalk along the south bound service drive for connectivity.

  • Service drive closed during construction (May 2015 through July 2015)

South Bound Northwestern Service Drive (Berg to Evergreen)

The proposed improvements will reconstruct the service drive from Berg to the off ramp west of Lahser Road and rehabilitate the remainder of the corridor by milling and overlaying with 4” of asphalt.  May apply for $1,554,300 reimbursement in October 2016.

The proposed improvements will reconstruct the road.

Bridge Street & Hilltop Reconstruction (S.A.D.)

Concrete reconstruction to be partially paid back by a ten year special assessment for the business park.

The proposed improvements are to pulverize the existing pavement and repave in asphalt with new curb and gutter and necessary storm drains.

Section 11 Concrete Patching

The proposed improvements will spot concrete repair Section 11 streets and replace small lengths of water main in multiple areas.

The proposed improvements will replace the water main, reconstruct Everett Street and spot concrete repair the remaining streets.
