Southfield Mayor Brenda L. Lawrence will present the free Let’s Move Summer Fitness Camp for youth beginning on Saturday, June 26 at Lawrence Technological Institute to promote physical fitness, healthy eating habits and healthy lifestyles in a fun and active way.
The camp will run from 10 a.m. – 12 noon on six consecutive Saturdays (except July 3) from June 26 until August 7 for youth ages eight through 12-years-old. The camp is part of a national program started by First Lady Michelle Obama to foster physical fitness and healthy lifestyles in the nation’s youth. Each week will feature a different theme and fun fitness activities for participants.
"Too many young people today do not eat balanced, healthy meals or get enough exercise," commented Mayor Brenda Lawrence. "It is vitally important to teach our youth healthy eating and exercise habits that will carry over into adulthood. I envision this program that to be one that is both fun and educational – inspiring and challenging young people to get off the couch and become more physically fit and active."
