Annual event honors sacrifice and service of military personnel
The city of Southfield will host the annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m. on the front steps of City Hall, 26000 Evergreen Road.
The City sponsors the annual event in partnership with the Southfield Veterans’ Organization to honor and recognize the service and sacrifice of military personnel. The ceremony will include opening remarks by Mayor Brenda L. Lawrence; keynote address by Brigadier General Robert H. Johnston, Commander of the Michigan Air National Guard; performances by the Southfield-Lathrup High School Advanced Choir; presentation of colors; 21-gun salute; and the Citizen of the Year award presentation to Shirley Schlussel.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will follow in City Hall. City Cable 15 will replay the program on Wednesday, November 11 at 12:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.; Thursday, November 12 at 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 13 at 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, November 14 at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, November 15 at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. For more information, contact Southfield Community Relations, at (248) 796-5130.
