The City of
Southfield, in partnership with the Commission on Senior Adults, will
sponsor Senior Appreciation Day on Wednesday, August 23 from 8:30 a.m.
– 7:30 p.m. to honor area seniors. Events and activities will be held
throughout the day at various Southfield sites. The annual celebration
is part of a statewide initiative that celebrates senior adults and
their contributions of to the growth, prosperity and cultural wisdom of
the region.
The 2006 Southfield Senior Appreciation Day activities include the following:
8:30-9:30 a.m. Walk with Mayor Brenda Lawrence at Inglenook Park, with water offered to participants
10-11 a.m. Tour of Beechwoods and the Wellness Center with guest speaker and healthy snack
11 a.m.-12 p.m. Tour of the Southfield Public Library
12-2 p.m. Tour of the Mary Thompson Gardens with beverages served
2-3 p.m. The Banjos of Michigan perform at the Southfield Adult Recreation Center 50+
2-6 p.m. Hot dogs and live music at the Southfield Adult Recreation 50+ and live music
2-6 p.m. Billiards played and donuts served in the basement of the Adult Recreation Center 50+
3-4 p.m. DJ Peoples Creative Ensemble Dance Music performed at the Southfield Adult Rec. Center 50+
4-5:30 p.m. Shady Maple Jazz Band Dixie Band perform at The Southfield Senior Adult Rec. Ctr. 50+
6-7:30 p.m. The Varitones perform an outdoor concert on The Burgh Site with dessert served
The Southfield
Senior Appreciation Day is part of Southfield Senior Appreciation Week,
August 21-25. Additional activities will take place throughout the week
at various locations in Southfield. All events are free and open to the
