City of Southfield hosts The Great Southfield Camp Out July 31 - August 1

The city of Southfield will host The Great Southfield Camp Out Friday, July 31 – Saturday, August 1 at the Beech Woods Recreation Center located at 22200 Beech Road one block south of Nine Mile Road.

Campers young and old are invited to bring their tents, air mattresses, blankets and lawn chairs for a fun-filled outdoor camping experience right in the city. Camp set up will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 31 and camp tear down will be at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 1. Activities will include Oakland County Mobile Recreation units, storytelling, a family fitness demonstration, fencing demonstration, crafts, and an outdoor movie beginning at 9:45 p.m. A hot breakfast of hotcakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be served at first light.

The campout is $25 for residents and $50 for non–residents (per family) which includes all activities and breakfast on Saturday. Each campsite is 15’ x 20’and the campout is limited to the first 30 families to register. Snacks will also be available for purchase. There will be no electricity available and generators will not be allowed. Cooking will also not permitted on sight; however, precooked foods and snacks will be allowed. Camp sites will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Campers may register at the Parks & Recreation building located in the Southfield Municipal Complex or at Beech Woods Recreation Center. For more information, call the Southfield Parks and Recreation Department at (248) 796-4620.
