Neighborhoods throughout Southfield are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide on Tuesday, August 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. for the 26th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.
National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Southfield Police Department, will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 37 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”
National Night Out is designed to:
· Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
· Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts
· Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
· Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
The Southfield Police Department will also host a going away party for crime and drugs behind the Southfield Sports Arena on August 4 from 5 - 8 p.m. This fun family event will include bike raffles, a D.J, inflatable bouncers, face painting, a clown, giveaways, games and food available for purchase. Residents not attending the event are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
National Night Out 2009 is supported in part by Target, the national corporate sponsor. For more information, call Officer Charmaine Ford at (248) 796-5407.
