Official Gus Macker Basketball Tournament part of event
The Southfield Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor the 2nd annual Southfield Sports Festival Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 at the Southfield Municipal Complex, 26000 Evergreen Road.
The festival will feature an official three-on-three Gus Macker Basketball Tournament, the only Macker tournament planned for metro Detroit this summer, and a SuperKids Triathlon. Children and adults are invited to form teams of up to four players to participate in the Southfield Gus Macker Tournament. Tournament times are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 28. Divisions include Youth (ages 10 and under: 11-12; 13-14; 15-16; and 17-18), Adult (ages 19 and older), and a Wheelchair Basketball division open to all ages. Teams must pre-register online at www.macker.com by Monday, June 8. Team fee is $128 and includes a t-shirt for each team member and a minimum of 3 games throughout the weekend.
The SuperKids Triathlon will take place on Sunday, June 28 at the Southfield Sports Arena (26000 Evergreen Road) beginning at 9 a.m. This event is open to youth ages 6-14-years-old. Participants will be separated into two age divisions and will take part in the following events: ages 6-10-years-old will compete in a 100m swim, 5k bike ride and 800m run; participants in the 11-14-years-old division will compete in a 200m swim, 10k bike ride and 1mi run. All registered youth will receive a SuperkidsTry shirt, finisher’s medal, swim cap, race number and partner supplied goodies. There will also be a SuperkidsTry park inflatable area and kids' snack tent. No overall awards will be given; however, the top three boys and girls in each two-year increment group (7-8, 9-10, 11-12 & 13-14-years-old) will receive acknowledgment.
