Southfield City Council President Donald Fracassi presented the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Prescription Drug Card Program for Southfield residents to the City Council at the March 20 meeting.
“We have to do everything that we can to help Southfield residents during these trying times,” commented Council President Fracassi. “This program will go a long way to help our residents who are without insurance or have limited prescription coverage.”
NLC launched the Prescription Drug Card Program to help citizens cope with the high cost of prescription drugs. The program is administered by CVS Caremark for NLC member cities and includes nearly 60,000 participating pharmacies nationwide, including all major chains and most local pharmacies. Through the program, residents who are without health insurance, a traditional pharmacy benefit plan, or have prescriptions not covered by insurance can save an average of 20 percent off the full retail cost of prescription medication. There is no cost to the city and there are no fees or limits for participants. CVS Caremark also provides residents with personalized prescription discount ID cards with the City’s logo. Residents may log on to www.caremark.com/nlc to find participating pharmacies in Southfield. The program will begin in approximately eight weeks.
The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
