Southfield Goodfellows seeking donations

The Southfield Goodfellows are seeking donations to purchase food, clothing and gifts for needy children, families and senior citizens in Southfield and Lathrup Village in addition to individuals and organizations interested in participating in the Gift-Giving Tree program.

The Gift-Giving Tree program is a special initiative aimed at helping needy children to acquire food and toys during the holiday season. The Goodfellows provide donors with tags listing the first name, age and gender of a specific needy child in the community in addition to their wish list. The monetary donation amount for the program is open-ended; however, Giving Tree commitments must be made by September 30, 2008.

The Southfield Goodfellows is an all-volunteer non-profit 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization that provides assistance to families in need through the efforts of various donors and volunteers. The group works in partnership with the Southfield Human Services Department to identify seniors and families with school-aged children who need assistance during the holiday season.

Donors wishing to make a monetary contribution may make a check or money order payable to Southfield Goodfellows and mail to P.O. Box 2336, Southfield, MI 48037-2336. Donations may also be made online at www.southfieldgoodfellows.org. To participate in the Giving Tree program or to obtain more information, call (248) 788-5899, leave a message and indicate call back information.
