The city of Southfield, in partnership with the City Centre Advisory Board, will sponsor the Eat to the Beat lunch concert series every Thursday this summer from June 19 – September 11 from 12 noon – 2:00 p.m. at the City Centre Plaza located on Central Park Boulevard, one block west of Evergreen between Civic Center Drive and the I-696 Service Drive. The long-running series is one of Southfield’s summer hallmarks and will feature artists who span a wide spectrum of musical genres.
“The Eat to the Beat summer concerts enable music lovers to stay close to home and get the same kind of quality entertainment that we’ve always provided,” said Southfield Parks & Recreation Director Bill Waterhouse. “We’ve lined up some new acts as well as some old stand-bys. It’s a great schedule. We’ve got big bands, soul and rock acts. We want to give people a variety of entertainment all at a price that they can’t beat - Free!”
The concert lineup is an exciting mix of music and artists that include:
June 19 - The Witch Doctors (Rockin’ blues)
June 26 - The Orbitsuns (Gritty southern rock with a Motor City vibe)
July 3 - Robert Penn (One of Detroit’s best blues showmen)
July 10 - Dave Hamilton Band (Rock, ballads and psychedelic soul)
July 17 - Motor City Women (Award-winning women of R & B and blues)
July 24 - Straight Ahead (Virtuoso jazz ensemble)
July 31 - Motor City Josh & The Big 3 (Blues and boogie guitar slinger)
August 7 - Codishimo (Funky jazz and rock)
August 14 - Planet “D” Nonet (The “small” big band playing old/new jazz)
August 21 - Skye Island Band (Classic rock and jazz)
August 28 - Carl Cafagna & North Star Jazz (Original and classic jazz)
September 4 - The Sun Messengers (Horn-driven R & B)
September 11 - Larry Lee & Back in the Day (Funk, R & B, classic rock and jazz)
