(SOUTHFIELD, Mich.) – The south parking lot at the Southfield Municipal Complex will close beginning Sunday, April 13 at 6 p.m. for completion of the resurfacing project that began last fall.
Once completed, the new south parking lot at City Hall will serve as a model for other similar resurfacing projects. This project will feature one of the first and largest installations of porous pavement at a municipal facility in the state of Michigan. The new lot has been designed and will be constructed utilizing new technology and materials that will make it environmentally-friendly. The new lot will reduce storm water runoff by one-third and incorporate a bioswale that will filter storm water runoff before it reaches streams and other waterways. This approach will not only help to protect the environment, but also to reduce the impact upon the immediate habitat. The completed parking lot will also be more pedestrian friendly with improved traffic circulation and increased handicap accessibility.
The project is expected to be completed in June. Call Southfield Public Works at (248) 796-4800 for more information.
